Anthony Goes for the Green

Well summer time has finally come after a long Spring semester! Unfortunately it was followed directly by another summer semester =/. Living on campus has been pretty boring thus far, if I were to compare it to a video games it would definitely be Silent Hill 4: The Room (less monsters but a similar amount of isolation). Well anyway to help pass the time when I'm not doing schoolwork or going to work, I decided to take up some of those scholarship opportunities that I never got around to doing. This one in particular is for the All-Ink.com "person who had an impact on your life." Ugh these essays always seemed so tedious in the past...But anyway this is what I came up with in the last 10 minutes (50-200 words) so enjoy ^_^

"Throughout my life I have always lived by the code of self reliance and independence, thus my readings of the works written by Malcolm X have played a pivotal role in the shaping of my outlook on life. Namely after reading his autobiography a few years ago, I came to see first hand the power of individual effort and the earnest desire for the betterment of oneself and the community around them. As Malcolm X grew as a person, he realized the many truths of life regarding equality and freedom, and how all are deserving of such ideals and through vigilance they can achieve them. I have lived my life following his rules of self determination and hard work, not only in my college career but also in my overall outlook on life. Just as Malcolm X never gave up in the face of difficult times, I have also striven to persevere against the challenges of both education and life. I hope that by furthering my education and earning my degree that I can someday give back to the community which has already given so much to me."

Kind of corny but that also means more fiber, and that means results. I figure I'll be doing a few of these things a week, and the more money I get the less guilty I'll feel about upgrading the computer I plan on buying in a few months!

But yeah I fully recommend reading Malcolm X's autobiography. I read it last summer after buying it on a whim and was absorbed by it after just a few pages. A lot more controversy surrounds his life compared to the other big civil rights leader of the time, Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm himself agreed that in the beginning his views were filled with racism toward the white community, however as he grows as a person he begins to change his outlook on the source of the problems and the ways in which he and the community can deal with them. It is unfortunate that both of these civil rights leaders were robbed of their future potential but their messages live on in the hearts and minds of the future generations.
